Description
The historic town of Cripple Creek in Teller county, Colorado. This general area is part of Victor / Cripple Creek gold mining district which dates back to the gold rush days of the late 1800s/ early 1900s. It is the largest gold mine in Colorado.
In 2014, it produced 211000 troy ounces of pure gold. Cripple Creek is 9500 feet (2900 meters) above sea level. It is located on the southwest side of world-famous Pikes Peak which is 14115 feet (4302 metes) above sea level.
The word auriferous means containing gold. It comes from the word AURUM, Latin for gold.
